Union Square Green Market
One of the true joys for foodies and those who love to be close to the earth for their food is going to the Green Market in New York's Union Square on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. The Green Market traces its beginnings to the mid-1970s. It's a true "farmers' market": the tents, homemade signs, crates, buckets, old tables, and coolers add to the excitement of finding the perfect apples, pears, carrots, garlic, herbs, and browsing the full array of farm-grown produce, meats, and fish. It's easy to recognize chefs' walking through their favorite "go-to" tents, laden with three or four bags of farm-to-table ingredients for use in their restaurant later in the day.
