Many people believe that the fun of New York is in its theaters, museums, stores, galleries, and other tourist attractions. They are partly right, in that these activities are enjoyable; however, real fun and excitement can also be found simply in walking the streets, keeping your eyes open for what is taking place every minute of the day. The photographs in this section were taken between 2002 and 2019. The images show life in the big city in all its intensity and variety. New York has always been a walking city, now more so than ever, as the city officials come to grips with the recent explosion of cars for hire clogging the streets and a younger generation more inclined to use their phones to engage a car to ride 20 blocks rather than walk the mile.
